ELFERS SPUR TRAIL SEAWALL AND TRAIL RESTORATION (PART OF PINELLAS TRAIL) – TARPON SPRINGS, FL
The Elfers Spur Trail connects the Anclote River Nature Park to the Pinellas Trail in the City of Tarpon Springs, FL.
Near the southern end of the trail, erosion from the Anclote River caused significant undermining and damage, making the path unsafe. KM2H, LLC was contracted to repair the trail and prevent future erosion by installing a seawall with tiebacks along the section near East Grand Boulevard, as well as performing a full-depth roadway restoration.
The new seawall consists of 34-foot-deep steel sheet piles, building a 350-foot-long wall along the eroded portion of the trail. It includes a concrete cap and helical tieback anchors spaced at 11-foot intervals.
In addition, the entire 15-foot-wide asphalt trail was removed and replaced along the 350ft length of the project. Approximately 150 feet of the trail required full-depth roadway reconstruction in areas where severe undermining had occurred.
