GULFPORT CASINO PIER REPLACEMENT – CITY OF GULFPORT, FL
Marina Replacement Project
KM2H served as the Prime Contractor, providing turnkey project execution for the complete replacement of the City of Gulfport Casino Pier and Day Dock.
On September 26, 2024, storm surge generated by Hurricane Helene caused significant damage to the Casino dock facilities. The storm impacts compromised the existing waterfront infrastructure and required complete replacement to restore safe, reliable, and functional public access to the waterfront near the Gulfport Casino.
The project included the demolition and replacement of approximately 1,102 square feet of damaged fixed wood dock facilities. KM2H constructed a new 1,102-square-foot fixed wood pier extending from the shoreline to a new day dock. The new day dock consists of approximately 1,118 square feet of floating concrete dock segments, providing waterfront access through two new gangways.
The floating concrete dock and anchorage system were delivered through a design-build process, incorporating enhanced resiliency measures to address potential future storm impacts while reducing long-term maintenance requirements. The floating dock system is secured by 13 steel pipe piles ranging from 14 to 18 inches in diameter and approximately 60 feet in length. The piles incorporate steel pipe piles with HDPE sleeves to facilitate the movement of the floating dock system while providing durable protection and reducing friction and maintenance associated with pile-to-dock interaction. This pile-supported anchorage system provides stability and reliable performance under changing water levels and challenging marine conditions.
In addition to construction of the new fixed wood pier and floating concrete day dock, KM2H’s subcontractors installed new turtle-friendly lighting and a new fire protection system. These improvements enhanced the safety, functionality, environmental compatibility, and overall usability of the waterfront facilities while supporting applicable marine and environmental requirements.
KM2H successfully completed the project in close coordination with the City’s Public Works Director and City Marina Management. Through effective management of marine construction, utility coordination, subcontractor activities, and final commissioning, KM2H delivered a fully integrated pier and day dock replacement designed for long-term performance, reliability, and resilience.
The project was successfully completed ahead of schedule, demonstrating KM2H’s commitment to quality, safety, efficiency, and responsive project delivery. The completed improvements provide the City of Gulfport and marina users with restored waterfront access and resilient marine infrastructure designed to provide lasting value to the surrounding community.
